[UPDATE] 4.0G disappearing /var/adm/syslog.dated

One solution is

/sbin/init.d/syslog stop && /sbin/init.d/syslog start

Before anyone yells "hacker" - this box is air-gap with the Internet
so I am pretty sure it is safe :-) Besides not running anything
"dangerous" and having ssh-only login.
