I have Tru64 5.1 running on an Alpha ES40. I am setting up users for
the first time on this machine and changed the default password lengths
for user chosen passwords to a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 14. I did
this through the default template and also tried creating a new
template. I also checked the /etc/auth/system/default file and it too
shows the u_minchosen to be 6 and the u_maxchosen to be 14. I created a
user and through dxaccounts as root can change the password for a user
to any length from 6 to 14 as expected. However when I as root enter
passwd <username> it forces me to enter a password from 6 to 8
characters which was the default before I changed it. If the user tries
to change their own password they get the same results.
Is there another place where defaults are set? It seems strange that it
works differently in dxaccounts than at the command line.
