finding bad blocks on a raw device

Hi,

My oracle DBAs have loaded some data onto a raw device and they say that
oracle is complaining about a bad block on the device. I can't seem to
find any command that will safely check the device for bad blocks. the
kicker here is that the raw device is one partition of a raid 5 set off a
HSG80 controller. I can find no errors reported by the OS or controllers.

Is there any way I can check this?

        thanks,

        Paul

ps - the dba's don't want to lose the data
