I got several responses to this and my other inquiry. I booted genvmunix
rebuilt the kernel and when I rebooted I got stuck in a loop because of an
error. By doing a control-C I got to the >> prompt and then set
auto_action to halt. When I finally got the system back up I still cannot
access the console through my keyboard or mouse. The screen is painted
fine so I don't think it has anything to do with the graphics. The main
reason I believe this is because I can type at the >> prompt but when I
brought the system up to single user mode to load patch kit 2 the keyboard
does not respond. SOnething happened during the upgrade that make my
keyboard and mouse go bonkers. This is strictly a test machine so it isn't
terribly critical but I have a DS20 to upgrade later and I don't want the
problem to occur then. I could be because the system is old. I had
already loaded the release of the firmware before doing the
upgrade. Further suggestions would be helpful.
Original question:

found the following >question in the archives which describes my problem

 >I've got an AlphaStation 200 4/233 that I've just upgraded from 4.0d to
4.0g to 5.1. It boots >fine, but the console is dead - except for the login
screen, which it paints just fine. No >mouse response no keyboard
response. But I can telnet to the system so I know it's >alive.... So, I
suspect my graphics adapter. I've looked at the graphics adapter and it's
from >Number Nine Corporation but I can't find a DEC part number (it does
have an S3 Trio64 >chip - whatever that is!). The old documentation I've
got says the graphics card should be >ZLXp-E1, but I don't know if that's
what I've got. The release notes for Tru64UNIX 5.1 talks >about no support
for various PowerStorm graphics adapters...... Any suggestions?
