I am attempting to install 4.0d on an Alpha PC164lx that has run NT up until
yesterday. I switched the console to srm and can see my devices:
My hard drive is dka100
CDrom is dka600
network is EWA0
SCSI controller is PKA0
when I boot from the CD (boot dka600) I end up with the following message
and the boot stops.
I do get a warning that there is an unsupported 53C875 scsi chip. From what
I have read, this should not keep it from working (maybe not optimally, but
work none the less)
I have searched the archives and found this same issue almost verbatim in
March of 2000, but was not able to find a summary.
panic (cpu0) : vfs_mountroot: cannot mount root
syncing disks...
trap: invalid memory read access from kernel mode
faulting virtual address 0x8
DUMP: No primary swap, no explicit dumpdev
No where to put header, giving up
CP_SAVE_TERM routine to be called
CP_SAVE_TERM exited with hlt_req=1, r0=00000000.00000000
halted CPU 0
halt code = 5 HALT instruction executed
PC = fffffc000042ef80
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
