>From all the reponses it is fairly clear that this is a known issue, not
only with Alpha's but
unix systems in general. Work-arounds to this situation would be :
1. Plug in a seperate keyboard, mouse and monitor for each of our systems, or
at least the ones that
are mission critical.
2. Try using guardian from raritan ( or as one response said "a little
Y-cable thing " ) which
according to the advertising "ensures nonstop computer operations in case
of
power failure to the switch"
Darren ( Who is in the process of calling his raritan dealer :) )
Original Question
We have a Rariton KVM switch to provide access to our Alphas and NT servers.
Yesterday, we wanted to do some configuration changes, so we powered-down
the KVM switch. When this happened two of our Alphas "Halted" (Black
Screen)
When I got the Alphas running, there was no indication that a crash even
occured.
>From what I understand we should be able to disconnect Keyboard, video
and/or mouse and not affect the system(s).
