Here are the answers from Compaq persons:

1)

If you use addvol and rmvol on a V4.0x formatted AdvFS domain using a
V5.x system, it will preserve the V4.0x on-disk format.

You have to create a new domain, then move the data onto it using the
vdump/vrestore or tar or what ever suits your fancy. And of course,
you have to move the data one fileset at a time. It's tedious. In a
more perfect world, there would be a conversion utility that would do
this for you in-place, preserving your filesets; in the real world, it
is unlikely we'd get such a utility right.

Hi Claude,

Unfortunately there is no on-line method to convert from v3 to v4
AdvFS on-disk structures. You must back up the existing data (disk-
to-disk using vdump|vrestore) is okay), remake the domains and
filesets and restore the data.
