Hello Tru64 Managers,

 I found a AS1000A gathering dust in out lab and I want to make it a RIS
server. When I tried to install 5.1 from the CD, the install panicked. I
decided that it might be because the graphics console adapter was no longer
supported. I removed the graphics adapter, "set console serial", and then
entered "init". The system switched over to the serial console (using a HP
terminal in vt100 mode).

 I then tried to boot the install CD again, this time it went a bit farther,
but panicked booting the mini kernel used to install with the following
messages;

configure_console: No serial driver from get_info
No kernel console driver installed
panic(cpu0): System does not have a console configured.

 Well, it appeared to have a working console. I could do normal commands at
the serial console, like "boot dka400".

 Anyone see this before or have any ideas?

 I assume that cold installing 5.1 on a AS1000A with just a serial console
should work?

TIA.
