This has been confirmed as a bug which has been fixed in 5.1A. This kernel
messages was delivered with an emergency status, and thus invoking the
*.emerg broadcast to all logged on users through syslog.

2 part question
part1
while performing a hwmgr -scan scsi command to add new configured storage, I
recieved a "hostname vmunix:nil>" alert. Does anyone know what this event
is?

part 2
this alert was broadcast to all users who were logged on to the system from
syslogd. I can't find any such broadcast in the syslog.conf file, and would
prefer to not have a repeat. where do I turn this feature off?

thanks
pmob
