Can you remove ppp0/sl0 "interfaces"?

We are running HP Openview NNM (and some other components)
to monitor our alphas (gs140s, v4.0F). We just started
monitoring, and are getting alerts about problems with
interfaces 5 and 7, on a system that only has 4 NICs.
We believe it's complaining about the "sl0" and "ppp0"
devices:
1. tu0: flags=c63<UP,BROADCAST,NOTRAILERS,RUNNING,MULTICAST,SIMPLEX>
        :
2. tu1: flags=c22<BROADCAST,NOTRAILERS,MULTICAST,SIMPLEX>

3. tu2: flags=c63<UP,BROADCAST,NOTRAILERS,RUNNING,MULTICAST,SIMPLEX>
        :
4. tu3: flags=c63<UP,BROADCAST,NOTRAILERS,RUNNING,MULTICAST,SIMPLEX>
        :
5. sl0: flags=10<POINTOPOINT>

6. lo0: flags=100c89<UP,LOOPBACK,NOARP,MULTICAST,SIMPLEX,NOCHECKSUM>
        :
7. ppp0: flags=10<POINTOPOINT>

Devices 1-4, and 6 all are defined as something, but devices 5 and 7
are not defined in any way, just the "flags=10<POINTOPOINT>".

The monitoring group has asked if I can remove the sl0 and ppp0
devices - is this possible/reasonable? Could we perhaps do some
bogus config, but just not start them, perhaps making OV happy?

Thanks,
