I've noticed that steamd dies shortly after it is started up after boot up
of the OS. I have not noticed that it dies later. Once I start it manually
after booting after it fails the first time, it keeps running.

The subset I am using is SWCC500. Earlier versions did not have this
problem.

I opened a support call with Compaq Services a while back and never got a
response.

Steamd does seem very fragile. I /think/ it always has been, but in v2.1 and
below it was started from inittab with respawn set. In v2.2 it's started
from the init.d scripts so that it can be cluster-aware and there isn't
anything in a non-cluster environment to restart it.

I have a task on my to-do list to set up a way to monitor and restart it.

Subject: steamd dies in 5.1

Hello friends,
        We have a new (3 months old) ES40 with Tru-64 5.1 PK2.
The steamd daemon dies every 3 or 4 days. Has anyone else had this problem?
Is it a known bug?
Thanks...
