OK, It turns out, I still have no idea what the problem was. I called Compaq customer support, and they tried a whole bunch of stuff--none of which worked at all. They suggested that I call the maker of the print server--Lantronix. But before that I tried a whole bunch more stuff--then my network admin noticed that none of the NT servers could print to the new printer any longer. He ended up restoring the factory defaults on the print server, and then the NT boxes worked. I tried the Unix boxes again...and all of a sudden they worked too. The whole thing has left me frustrated and annoyed, but at least it is working. thanks to everyone who tried to help....
