Yes, there are some folks running Tru64 Unix v5.Xx on PC 164's !!
Some of the thoughts were that this system was an "EARLY" design and may not
be as "peppy" as the LX or SX systems. Manuals _may_ be available if they
are needed.
My particular needs focus around statistical analysis of very large files,
hence my utilization is usually 80%-90% I/O bound (10%-20% CPU). So bus
speed and SCSI interface speed are my major concerns. I probably won't go
for this system as a disaster recovery box.
Memory;
72 pin ECC SIMMs - 8x64MB=512MB maximum (Need to be added in sets of 4)
Possible jumper settings for extended utilization.
Video;
"The 3DLabs Oxygen VX1 is currently the best affordable solution for
Tru64 Unix. Beware that you need PK2 for Tru64 5.1 to support this card."
Other Tru64 supported cards may also work.
Ethernet;
DE600 or DE500BA.
Other Tru64 supported cards may also work.
SCSI ;
NCR810, IntraServer SCSI
Other Tru64 supported cards may also work.

Subject: Alpha PC 164 and Tru64 Unix v5.Xx
Hello All,
I have an Alpha PC _164LX_ running Tru64 Unix v5.1 and I am considering
getting an Alpha PC _164_ motherboard/CPU and putting together a disaster
recovery system.
Does anyone run an Alpha PC 164 under Tru64 Unix v5.Xx?
Any advice regarding these systems such as;
type of memory to buy?
maximum amount of memory (assuming Tru64 OS)?
video adapters that work well?
ethernet adapters that work well?
compatible SCSI cards?
Thanks,
Ed Notari

PS,
>From pictures I have seen, if they are correct, there appears to be 8 slots
for memory on the PC 164 MoBo, whereas my PC 164LX has 4 slots for memory.
Thus, on the PC 164LX I can get 4x256MB of RAM. Not sure about the PC
164... Thoughts...
