I was told there is a way to determine the year of manufacture of an alpha
box by it's serial number. Does anyone know how to do this or what digit in
the SN reflects the year of manufacture?
ANSWER (Bryan Lavelle):
The first two letters are manufacturing
plant, the first number is the year in the decade, the next two numbers are
the week of the year. The rest is unique. This is with ex-Digital lines.
PCs and the newer Wildfires have different schemes. And I think that maybe
even some of the newer Alpha platforms might be different.
Ex. AG123ABCDE would be 2001, week 23.
