Thank you to the Tru64 Managers for the assistance!
Part 1:
The 'imcs' command won't work until the API is initialized with the
commands: imc_init
[Thanks to Larry Clegg]
Results:
# imcs
MEMORY CHANNEL API Version X2.0-0
MEMORY CHANNEL Cluster Members:
mars.xyz.xyz.com
pluto.xyz.xyz.com
MEMORY CHANNEL Regions:
Type ID KEY SIZE MODE OWNER GROUP
MEMORY CHANNEL Lock Sets:
Type KEY MODE OWNER GROUP NLOCKS
Part 2:
The slowness seems to be related to a SCSI error on the CD-ROM device.
Every 10 seconds, there is an event logged. Once I just ejected the cd-rom
drawer and closed it again, the events stopped. It seemed that about the
same time, the slowness stopped -- but this might have just been a
coincidence!
There's also a suspicion that something is wrong with the hardware and/or
firmware. Apparently our case with Compaq has reached the Engineering
level. So I take that to mean, that it's a problem taken seriously by the
support team.
Thank you again for the assistance.

Tru64 Managers:
We have a 2-node ES40 cluster, running Tru64 5.1 patch 3.
When one node crashes and reboots, BOTH systems run painfully slow until we
reboot both cluster members.
My guess is that the MEMORY CHANNEL gets confused and doesn't come back to
life, and that IO is taking some roundabout ways. (There is no CPU
bottleneck during this slow performance period.)
I don't know how this MEMORY CHANNEL command looks on a "normal" basis, but
right now, it seems like it's not being used by the TruCluster:
# imcs -s
imcs: MEMORY CHANNEL is not initialised for user access
# imcs -f
imcs: MEMORY CHANNEL is not initialised for user access
My questions:
1 - Should 'imcs' provide meaningful information if the TruCluster is using
it correctly? (The 'man' page has some examples.)
2 - Are there tricks to getting the cluster back to full performance after a
member crash (other than rebooting both members)?
Thank you!
