Samba - Good speed tweak??

Does anyone know of a good tweak to increase the file transfer speed from
non-tru64 Desktop --> Samba DIR on server1 which is an NFS mount to server2?

Slowdown is 15% the fault of samba, and I believe 80% the fault of the mount
