FW: the alpha/intel situation - Compaq employees should read

Greetings,

I think this is the biggest mistake that Compaq has
made in regards to it's aquisition of DEC. The Alpha
processor is the crown jewel of Tru64 and VMS. Without
it, what's the point in going with Compaq/Wintel?
Compaq just lost an incredible amount of customers by
doing this. Unix shops went with Sparc, Power, and
Alpha to avoid the crap from Intel.. now that the
Alpha is out of the way.. you'll see more Power and
Sparc boxes. By doing this, Compaq has lost it's place
in the Unix market. Who would want to buy Tru64 for
Intel, when they could use Linux or something else.
This is just bad news all the way around. I'm really
upset, because I've spent a lot of money and time on
Tru64 Unix and now that this has happened.. I'm going
back to Solaris. Atleast I know they have a future in
the Unix market and can sell the product.

I think that Intel will basicly take the compilers and
the technology and mess it all up for us. I suggest to
the engineers at Compaq who work on Alpha or Tru64 to
leave and help out the unix market elsewhere.. not the
Wintel market.

I'll always remember the Alpha and Tru64 as my
favorite Unix of the past:)
