Managers,
Does anyone have any insight to what Compaq is doing with regards to SSI clustering.
I had thought they were going to use it as a competitive advantage for Tru64. (I think it is a really good one.)
I was just reading about their recently announced OpenSource project: Single System Image Clustering for Linux.
I don't know how far away this is from production. It could be years, but the goals seem to be very much along the lines of TruClusters 5.x and maybe even more sophisticated.
See:
http://bjbrew.org/cpq/ssic_linux/montreal/sld001.htm for a good, but long, technical description of their goals.
The associated website is

Is this for real? If so, why use Tru64 3 years from now. We already know the Alpha will be incorporated into the Itanium by then, so there will be lots of O/S support outside of Tru64. Linux in particular should have strong support of Compaq's 2004 64 bit server line.
I guess the good news is commodity clustering is coming, but I totally don't understand the logic behind this move.
Maybe the ProLiant people are trying to kill off Sun and SGI?
Confused and bewildered,
Greg
