Thanks to all who replied. I got a mixed feeling on
the first question which I initially thought would
have an overall agreement...so I guess I will have to
do my homework and find out in detail what the update
install from 4.0g to 5.1 is all about. Any more
opinions are welcomed: This is what I got:
With regard to (1):
By waiting until AFTER upgrading to Tru64 V5.1 you can
take advantage
of
AdvFS upgrades -- assuming your filesystems are built
on AdvFS domains.
You
will have to CREATE the domains under AdvFS V5 and
then restore data
from
backups (or mount the old disks on temporary
mountpoints and copy
disk-to-disk).
If you use UFS for your filesystems, there really
isn't much difference
between before or after.
(2) I don't use ssh so I will not comment...

Are you using AdvFS? If so, then you will want to
upgrade the OS first
then
the disks as the AdvFS version is different for 5.1.
If you upgrade
the
disks, then the OS and had to rebuild your file
domains again anyway
why
bother with the disk upgrade on 4.0g? It would just
be extra work.
This
only applies if you are using AdvFS on the 4.0g box.
Just my 2cents.

Can't comment on your #2 question, but you are right
on the money on
your first plan; plus, if you keep your old small
disks, you've got
a backup if anything goes wrong during the update, AND
you can make
the root and other partitions larger while you're
moving stuff onto
the new disks. Makes sense to me to do it in the
order you chose.

With regard to your second question ... libwrap.a is
generated in the
tcp_wrappers source directory when tcp_wrappers is
compiled. You'll
need
to manually copy it to something like /usr/local/lib.
Good Luck!
