Dear admins,

I have to update my summary - for some unknown reason (maybe the wrong
timestamp in the mail), I had forgotten to mention Alan's answer:

... which I already had published in my first summary.

Now the one from alan_at_nabeth.cxo.dec.com :
"The shelf is just a SCSI bus in a box. Depending on the
model of BA350 connecting it to a PC might be an issue.
    ... The shelf is probably
narrow, modern adapters tend to be wide. More recent
versions of the shelf used I/O personality modules to
handle the conversions. Blue shelves are Wide and
    capable of supporting UltraSCSI drives.

The disks may expect an explicit SCSI Start command,
where PCs tend to expect disks to spin up when they
get power. Some adapters allow changing this expectation,
while other require changing the disk. This is usually
a firmware bit in some drive mode page, but you need
software that can change it. The scu(8) command on
Tru64 UNIX can do it, before you move them."

So the general conclusion from all four answers is:
- It is expected to work.
- Issues might be cabling connection and the restriction
to "single-ended, narrow, fast" SCSI (= no "Ultra").
- The spin-up setting of the disks needs to be checked / handled.

Regards to you all
and many thanks again for the answers and hints,

Joerg Bruehe
