Summary: vdump to file and then transfer to tape

Once more this list responded amazingly 6 responses in less than 12 hours !!

The general consensus is that I can do this - hooray !!

The only area of conflict was around the block size to make dd use, the
majority opted for 60K blocks as this is the block size that vdump uses,
some seemed to state that 64K was the block size.

Thanks again.

If I perform a vdump to a file, " saved-usr.dmp "

and then I dd this file to a tape drive (DAT).

I assume I could vrestore directly from this tape.

Could I just do : dd if=saved-usr.dmp of=/dev/tape/tape0

or would dd need any additional switches.

The reason for this question. The system to be backed up has a local DAT

drive, unfortunately it is in a locked datacentre. We intend to vdump to an
NFS

mounted area served from a server in a non-locked datacentre, which also has
a

local DAT drive. We can then produce backup tapes for emergency recovery -
hopefully.
