Ultrix new DSP-Disk

Hello Fellow Admins,

I know this is an TR64-SIte, but perhaps there is anyone out there who can
help me
out of the situation I'm in.

I have an DEC5025 System running ULTRIX V4.3
One of the installed Diskdrive has gone south and I want to replace this
with a new one.
The disk is rz4.

After replacement, I wanted to partition the disk and put a new filesystem
on it.

The Disk-Type is an DEC DSP3105 Drive, but this Drive is not mentioned in
the disktab.
The man-page points out that if the disktype is not mentioned in the newfs
command,
the system will find the disk-geometry itself from the disk.

When I try to type in the newfs-command without the disktype for the new
installed replacement-disk, the system simply doe not accept the
command-line and requests
a disktype. If I type in "unknown" or "xx" instead of the exact disktype
(this works under tru64 UNIX), then I got a huge errorprintout, the
essential info of which is:

  cam_logger: bus 0 target 4 lun 0
  cdisk_open_spin
  Start Unit failed
  Hard Error Detected
CCB request completed with an error
  CCB-Header:
     .
     .
CAM Flags set: 0xc0= CAM_DIR_NONE= DAta direction is 'NO DATA'
     .
     .
"xx" unknown disk type <<< I tried xx as disk-type

If I try to type in a similar disk-Type (e.g. RZ26) the output looks the
same
except:
 warning: missing disk partition table
   .
   .
newfs: /dev/rrz4c cannot open: I/O error.

Can anyone tell me if the new disk is bad or if i just typed in the wrong
command to
get the disk partitioned with a new filesystem on it.

Any help is welcome.
