compile failures

Hi,

I'm using tru64-unix v5.1 just recently installed on an alpha workstation. In
the last few days I've been loading various freeware products (mostly gnu stuff)
and some won't compile although the configure scripts will run and complete.
The error message given by the compiler is similar when running make for gcc and
ssh; both contain the following reference to the mips-tfile.

mips-tfile, /tmp/ccaagXVa.s:910 Segmentation fault
line: #.def SshCalendarTimeStruct; .scl 13; .tag SshCalen
darTimeRec; .size 24; .type 0x8; .endef

*** Exit 1
Stop.
*** Exit 1
Stop.
*** Exit 1
Stop.
*** Exit 1
Stop.
*** Exit 1
Stop.

I have an old version of gcc currently installed and I believe this output is
from that compiler. I've tried using the cc compiler but that also fails.

Is anyone familiar with this error or can someone give advice on how to get
around it?

I have compiled other large programs recently without trouble.

Thanks.
