questions about hosts.deny

Hello everyone,

I have a quick question about spawning executables in the /etc/hosts.deny
file.

I know that on a Sun box I can preform the following, and receive the
correct responce:

/ect/hosts.deny :

ALL:ALL: spawn ( echo -e " Attempted connection from %c for %d (pid %p)" |
mail -s "From ghost_at_$(uname -n) \: %d" ghostd_at_ids )

On Linux (specifically Slackware) I can preform the same thing with the
following:

ALL:ALL: spawn /bin/echo -e " Attempted connection from %c for %d (pid %p)"
| /bin/mail -s "From ghost_at_$(uname -n)\ : %d" ghostd_at_ids

I have tried both ways (and variants between) on my alpha testing box, which
is a DEC 3000 running v4.0g, with no luck.

Could someone point me in the right direction? Wheither it's documents or
personal experience.

Thanks,
