How to safely kill the Sendmail Process.

Dear All,

I normally to user kill {PID} to kill the hang process. But is there any
parameter to add after Kill, so that the process can restart instantly and
which will not disturb the user. Someone tell me that I can use: kill -1.
Is't right??
