Hi Again Managers:
I just wanted to thank you for the responses I received for the below issue
on 8/1 and am happy to say that I discovered that the graphics card was the
cause of the problem, so I removed it and was able to load the new firmware
and the Unix 5.1 operating system. Thanks in particular to Jim Lola, Dan
Price, and all others that responded. Its nice to have such a great resource
to fall back on if needed. Once again everyone, Thanks.

Hello Managers:
Something tells me the answer to this question is a resounding NO, but here
goes....

I had the above old Alpha Station laying around and wanted to test some
proxy server software and was trying to install Unix 5.1 with no luck.
Can this be done on this Alpha Station? Am I missing something and/or making
an error in the installation procedure?

I did the following procedure with the software starting to load (CD was
being read), then installation hangs at "jumping to bootstrap code" and
nothing else happens. The same result happens (below) when I try to install
firmware or the operating system.

>>>set boot_osflags ""
>>>init
>>>boot dka400

(boot dka400.4.0.6.0)
block 0 of dka400.4.0.6.0 is a valid boot block
reading 14 blocks from dka400.4.0.6.0
bootstrap code read in
base = 1f6000, image_start =0, image_bytes = 1c00
initializing HWRPB at 2000
initializing page table at 1e8000
initializing machine state
setting affinity to the primary CPU
jumping to bootstrap code
