Hello managers,
my questions were:
we use eXcursion v2.1 on our Windows NT4 PCs to work on our Tru64 Unix
4D/F workstations and servers. We plan to upgrade to Windows 2000 and
also to Tru64 Unix 5.1.
My questions are:
- Is eXcursion still available? A search at www.compaq.com gave lots of
hits, but none of them was really helpful for me.
- Does anybody use StarNet XWin32 in our kind of setup? We could
purchase some licenses for little money (from a campus site license
program). Is it easy to use? Is it reliable?
- Which other X server software is worth to take a look at? Exceed?
I got more than 10 answers and I thank all the people who shared their
knowledge and experience.
1. Many people use Starnet's XWin32 with Tru64 Unix V4 and V5 machines
and nobody reported failures or difficulties. It seems to be a really
good solution for our needs. Adding its low price, we will use it in the
future.
2. Exceed is popular, too. It has many more features than XWin32 (NFS
client, FTP client, ...), but it's also more expensive.
3. Other suggestions were MetroX (free), Reflection X and VNC.
4. eXcursion (V7.x) is still available as a part of the Pathworks
package. However, Compaq doesn't support it.
Best regards,
Ralf Eichmann
