NIS in multi-homed environment?

Hello,

Our NIS Master is running Tru64 4.0f (under C2) and has multiple Network
cards in it. The NIS master is hosting the following maps: hosts,
passwd/prpasswd, group.

We have an NIS client (also 4.0f) that has moved from the Master's primary
network to one serviced only by a secondary NIC (The NIS master's primary
NIC is on 157.199.x.x and has a NIC on 192.168.0.x). The client has moved
to a 192.168.0.x IP and we ran nissetup and told it that the NIS master was
at the Master's 192.168.0 IP. The client is able to read the host maps w/o
any problems, but when we attempt to telnet into this client, we receive the
following:
[start paste]
johlos:excalibur> telnet marian_int
Trying 192.168.0.51...
Connected to marian_int.
Escape character is '^]'.

Digital UNIX (marian) (ttyp0)

login: johlos
Password:
Last successful login for johlos: Fri Aug 10 14:05:24 2001 on console
Last unsuccessful login for johlos: Mon Aug 6 10:36:26 2001 from johlos3

Can't rewrite protected password entry for user johlos

Wait for login exit ...

Connection closed by foreign host.
johlos:excalibur>
[end paste]

The only way for the client to communicate to the Master is via the Master's
secondary NIC.

It would appear as though the client does not have permissions to update
prpasswd to include the new login date. Is there something we need to do to
the Master to allow this client to be able to update prpasswd? When we
configured NIS using nissetup we choose the default choices.

Thanks,

John Losey
