Quick responses all say THIS WILL NOT WORK
Thanks to all who responded.
The resulting LUN is 5*18G in size not it's double.
To think what you describe MAY work you need to
IMAGINE (read DREAM)
that
the sofware inside the raid array has ONLINE GROW
capability (like LSM
for
instance) which is far too much for the complexity
level of the
software
Compaq will ever put in the proms of such a
controller.

In my opinion, i'm 99% sure that it doesn't work.
When you add the 36 GB disk to your 18 GB raid 5 then
the HSZ70 will
label
the 36 GB disk like a 18 GB disk and then reconstruct
the raid.
So if you do that for all the raid, you will have 6x36
GB hard disk but
like
6x18 GB soft disk.

nope. the HSZ will complain about container size.
and it will not
just
upgrade to 36GB after the fact all disks have been
replaced.
