ADVFS disk crash

Hi,

We have an advfs domain which spans 3 hard disks, and
one of them crashed recently, DiskSavers, CA said the
drive was so bad that nothing could be recovered.

Now I am wondering if I can do something to recover
the data. Thoughts I have are (desperate attempts,
these may be meaningless):

(1) Put in a replacement blank drive and partition it
to have the same partitions as the crashed drive,
try to reboot and see if I can trick it to mount
    the crashed domain

(2) Change /etc/fdmns so it does not try to mount the
volumes on the crashed disk, but only the rest
into the domain. For this, I see that there are
    links (/etc/fdmns/usr_domain/rz1c -> /dev/rz1c)
and I am unable to remove these links. It is
the usr domain that is dead, so I don't have most
of the shell utilities :( I only have /sbin.

Is my data completely gone? (Well, that is what the
Tru64 Admin Guide says) -- I am trying for a final
push and shove to see if I can recover something. If
not, well, re-format, re-install....

Thanks a lot in advance!
