We seem to have got to the bottom of our issue with Samba, so we probably won't be looking elsewhere. The problem we have identifed is the way that Samba reports free diskspace. We have a 72GB Raid set which has several filesets mounted on it in subdirectories off a root directory. The samba share is the highest level directory, not the end of the mount point so when samba does a 'df' on the share it reports the free space that exists within the root partition, not the physical fileset.
We have fudged it by using the 'dfree' configuration option within samba to give a huge value which will report space being available. We manage disks from UNIX so I don't care whether the windows side is correct or not. We could have also fixed this by creating many samba shares, each one would then have reported correctly.

Bryan..
