Thanks so much for the quick responses:
-> John Becker, Bob Klenotiz, Kurt Ludwig, Alan_at_nabeth
After initial replies, I tried:
* Cold reboot <same error>
* boot using installation CD <worked>
* but didn't go ahead and re-install
* firmware update cd -- here, it, at one point
asks for "bootfile:" <press return for default
bootfile>
* I hit return, and then it says
(boot dka0.0.0.6.1 -flags A)
Unable to open dka0.0.0.6.1 <uh-oh!>
* I hit ^C here, and it actually goes ahead
and updates the firmware (!)
* After this I tried re-install CD, and it reflects
the newer firmware (so does the bios message on
starting up).
* I now have a newer firmware (5.8), and am trying
the same process. Again same (unable to open dka0)
* Is my hard disk gone????
* When I booted using install CD, I tried
-> mount swap partition on dka0, (dsk0b): worked
-> mount dsk0a which contains root partition,
it says "dsk0a contains an ADVFS file system"
???
thanks a million!
