Thanks for several quick replies. Consensus is that yes,
upgrade path requires 5.0a somewhere in middle, and it
was a standard shipment. Dr. Blinn says:
"In general, for any given release, there are only two upgrade paths.
For V5.1, the two paths are "from V4.0G" and "from V5.0A", there is
no "from V5.0" in the mix."
We evidently missed out on the 5.0a shipment, though I have
3 copies each of 4.0f, 5.0 (july 1999), and 5.1. sigh...
