How to get from tru64 v5.0 (july 1999) to v5.1 (without 5.0a)?

I have a system I upgraded from 4.0F to 5.0, in prep for going to 5.1.
Now I'm trying to do the upgrade to 5.1, but have found you can't go
from 5.0 to 5.1, evidently, without going to 5.0a in between. Is this
true???????? We seem to have never received 5.0a, just 4.0g, 5.0, 5.1.
Was 5.0a a standard shipment we perhaps lost, or a special version
that only some sites got?
