thanks to Jan Mark Holzer_at_DEC, i have an answer:
===========
if you have installed the TruCluster subsets and have been running
Production Server your
only option to remove the MC hardware and run the traditional ASE
software is to
re-install the cluster subsets.
As the asecdb does include/"remember" cluster specific information
(including
MC) you'll have to re-init the asecdb as well.
As of 1.6 we do support the usage of description files for services
which should
at least configuring the services somewhat easier.
Hth,
Jan
=========
so, delete trucluster subsets --> remove MC hardware --> reinstall
trucluster subsets and setup ASE again w/ new asecdb.

Subject: ASE 1.6 change
i've got a customer running a three node ES40 4.0f trucluster 1.6. even
thought the memory channel subsystem is not needed, it's ASE services only,
the memory channel hardware was present when ASE was setup.
now.....the customer wants to remove the memory channel hardware. how will
ASE act? do i have to start from scratch - tear down ASE and set back up?
or just change the correct variables in the rc.config file?
please advise.....if you need more details, please ask.
