Hi. I'm new to tru64, having only used it for a few days. I have worked
with linux and solaris for several years.
Prior to beginning my current position, my employer arrange the purchase
of a Compaq ES40 and their MA8000 StorageWorks RAID.
Not much thought was given at the time to integrating tru64 with the
existing linux and irix systems we have. I've found that NIS between
linux, irix and tru64 is problematic (I haven't been able to make it
work) when passwords are 'shadowed' on tru64.
So from an experience and administration standpoint, linux wins in my
view.
So why should we consider tru64 over linux?
Is performance the issue?
Has anyone used the MA8000 with an es40 running linux?
Are the compaq compilers that much better?
We do have a ds10 that we can install tru64 on, compile apps there, and
then run them on the es40. From what I understand, you can compile on
tru64, run on alpha linux, right?
>From what I've seen, tru64 isn't bad. But it's ANOTHER OS that I'd just
as soon not have to support. Linux fits better into our existing system,
and long term I don't see tru64 playing much of a role here.
So, please tell me why I'm crazy to want to use linux :)
Thanks much in advance!
