upgrade 4.0C to 4.0D?

Is it possible to easily upgrade from Digital Unix 4.0C to 4.0D?
I contacted compaq pre-sales and was told to just download some
patches from http://ftp1.support.compaq.com/public/unix/v4.0d/
which wouldn't install.

Reason: I'm attempting to install jdk 1.3.0
(http://www.compaq.com/java/download/)
