Hi,
Let me start off by extending my appreciation to all those who had recommended the usage of Vdump for backup purposes as it solved two of my problems. One was compression (works fine) and the second was the time it takes, compared to the earlier CPIO I used to try (time saved in backup: about 50% !).
Now to my question. I have backed up about 12 File systems but have noticed that in the output that Vdump produces, most of the File systems results in a line similar as below:
vdump: Dumped 2541050708 of 2541050708 bytes; 100.0% completed
Herein, both the bytes are the same. However, I have noticed couple of F/s where the output is similar to the one below:
vdump: Dumped 2889087719 of 2889086995 bytes; 100.0% completed
What is the reason for this discrepancy? How can it say 100% backed up and still differ in the number of bytes backed up compared to the estimated figure?
Would appreciate your response.
