Hello Managers,
I have recently upgraded our Qpopper version and have enabled Group
Bulletins for the first time. We have used the bulletin board system
for some time and it is a great help in reducing the number of emails
being sent out at one time, as we have a large number of accounts. We
also have our staff and students distributed over a number of campuses
and I thought it would be nice to have bulletins set up for each campus
as well as the central system.
However, the group bulletins are not working. The system uses the
/etc/group file to check whether a user receives a copy of a bulletin.
Those groups with only a few entries work fine, but most of our groups
have several thousand entries (split into multiple lines with the same
gid). I have noticed that on the Tru64 managers list there has been some
discussion in the past about the limits to the number of users in a group
being set by the sys/limits.h file and the getgrent(3) and associated
functions which are used by this program. It appears that the getgrid
function only returns the FIRST group in the database with that gid.
So, I am assuming that if your name is not in the first line in
/etc/group, you will not get the bulletin.
Has anyone else come across this problem before and if so, do you have an
answer?
Regards
