-- A bit more of info on the problem: Onboard SCSI controller that shows in "sh conf" is QLogic ISP1020. I am trying to connect DLT tape drive Quantum DLT7000 35/70 GB. The box is AlphaServer 1000A 5/333. Five more devices sits internally on the same SCSI bus, 4 hard drives and CDROM. Internal DDS tape used SCSI ID 5. I have termination on external SCSI connector, but it doesn't seem to do anything. Everything works whether it's connected or not. Same story with SRM variable pka0_soft_term. I tried to connect DLT to external connector with and without tape terminator, didn't make any difference. Not detected. I tried to connect again internal tape drive while DLT was connected to external connector. Internal tape was detected. The box simply doesn't pay any attention to what is connected on external connector. Some responses suggested that external connector doesn't work. So the question is why it doesn't work. It should, because it's there. Some responses suggested that external connector doesn't work, if any devices are connected internally. Well, it's simply not true, because we have 255s with NCR 810 SCSI controller, and external connection works while number of devices are connected internally. And, of course, connectors are the same, otherwise I wouldn't be able to connect. Another response was: "By adding the DLT to the external port you have the bus adpater in the middle of the chain". This is why it doesn't work. OK. How to get DLT to the correct end of the chain? If the external connector is in the middle. Thanks a lot to everyone who took their time to reply. The problem remains unresolved, though. I would like to ask anyone who were ever able to connect DLT to external connector on AS1000A, to let me know. That would eliminate one more variable in my search. Best regards Nik Tarasyuk Snowy Hydro AustraliaReceived on Wed Oct 17 2001 - 03:07:51 NZDT
