SUMMARY: Filesystem out of space

Ok, completely inundated with replies. All of which say that there must have been a file still in use (or open) at the time of deletion. Only after the file is "closed" with the space actually be freed up. This sounds alright, except for the fact that the directory I deleted was an export of an informix database (creates a directory, and converts the whole database into ASCII text files which is what is in the directory). These files would only be used during an import of an informix database. there were no imports running at the time I deleted this directory (I wasn't doing one, and I'm the only one who knows how to do one). So it remains a mystery as to why the system thought one or more of those files were open, but at least now I have somewhere to look if this happens again. Thanks for the many responses.
