Hi,
I have to access a remote Tru64 system through a firewall which has a
session idle timeout of 1hr. 'Til now I went via a VMS system which kept the
sessions open. I've just lost my access to that system so now I have to go
direct from the Alphastation on my desk. I can't get the firwall changed so
is there some option I can set on the Tru64 telnet session such that the
links don't get dropped? For example, if I run a vdump session on the
remote box, even though it generates output on my local screen, unless I kit
the shift key or something the session gets dumped after an hour.
Anyone know what the difference is between how VMS and unix handles the
telnet session? I'm curious to know why the VMS sessions aren't regarded as
being idle by the firewall despite there being no input from either end
whereas the unix sessions demand keyboard input from the system inside the
firewall to keep them active.
BTW, apologies if I end up sending html and also for the extended disclaimer
message appended to my posts. I've just had to transfer my subscription from
the VMS account I used to use to an Outlook/Exchange based option.
TIA
Joe
