centering the screen

Hi,

I have a Compaq xp1000 workstation running PowerStorm 300 for Tru64 Unix. I just got a Sony 18" LCD display (SDM-81), but I can't get the screen centered. I have tried changing the screen resolution and refresh rate by modifying the file:
/var/X11/Xserver.conf
as PowerStorm Installation Guide suggested, but it did not work. Has anybody else run into this problem before?
