Managers,

I waited to post this summary until I was sure the problem was
resolved. It turned out that it was a bug with the "mv"
command that had to do with files having identical inodes
across file systems. The inode of the directory on the target
file system was the same as the inode of the source file. The
"mv" command was not handling this properly.

Thanks to Dr. Tom Blinn for explaining this & assisting in
getting a customer specific patch from Compaq support. I
received & installed the patch yesterday & the problem appears
to be resolved.

I understand this patch will be included in Patch Kit #4.

Original message below:

==============================================================
We recently upgraded a machine from Tru64 UNIX V4.0D with Path
Kit #6 to V4.0G Patch Kit #3. After the upgrade the following
in a ksh script quit working:

# rm /ora07/oradata/deed/arch/*
# mv /ora02/oradata/deed/arch/* /ora07/oradata/deed/arch

When the "mv" command executes we a message similar to the
following is displayed:

mv: arch1_5482.dbf and /ora07/oradata/deed/arch are identical

The file mentioned in the message is not moved, BUT all of the
others that were in the originating directory are.

This script has worked this way for years.

I seached the archives for something like this with no luck.

Has anyone else seen anything similar?
