--- It is not a real process with an executable file and all that, only a placeholder in the process table. So, the sum of CPU time for all processes should be the time multiplied by the number of processors. When real processes do not keep the computer busy all the time, the rest is accounted for by "kernel idle". Just like your wife, the mony you dont spend, she spends ;-) ---- Regards, Xavier -- http://www.rootshell.be echo '16i[q]sa[ln0=aln100%Pln100/snlbx]sb20293A2058554E494Csnlbxq'|dc On Tue, 4 Dec 2001, Xavier wrote: > > Hi *, > > What exactly is the role of the "kernel idle" process? > I've a box here with this process eating all my CPU cycles!!! > (ES40/4CPU) > > Any idea? > > X > > -- > http://www.rootshell.be > echo '16i[q]sa[ln0=aln100%Pln100/snlbx]sb20293A2058554E494Csnlbxq'|dc >Received on Wed Dec 05 2001 - 15:23:06 NZDT
