Hi,

here are my favorite answers to the following question:

> is there a good information out there which describes in short what the
> differences between Tru64 4.x and 5.x are and what new features are in
5.x?

(From Dr. Thomas P. Blinn )
Not really, at least, not that I've ever seen. And in fact, there is
no simple description of V5.x, because V5.0, V5.0A, and V5.1 have lots
of differences. And V5.1A adds still more. It's very much a moving
target.

The BIGGEST user/administrator visible differences between V4.0x and
V5.x are in the device naming -- and most users don't care. Admins
have to learn the ins and outs of the new device naming scheme, the
new system admin tools (totally revamped), and so on. There are new
on-disk data structures for AdvFS file systems. There are significant
changes in the TruCluster implementation. And so on. Then you can
through the NUMA changes done in V5.1 to support the new GS series of
systems into the mix, and the networking changes, and so on. Some of
this is described release by release in the release notes, but there
is as far as I have found no one place where it's nicely laid out to
make it easy to understand. And some of the changes are SIGNIFICANT
and have real impact on installing and managing systems.

A good starting point is the online documentation at:

I think Release Notes for Tru64 5.x is what you are searching for.

Thank you all for trying to answer my question.
