SUMMARY: C compiler cannot create executables

Single response to this post (From Dave Love), thanks
for the highlight.
I was able to get past the configure problem after
reading http://gcc.gnu.org/install/specific.html and
checking under alpha*-dec-osf* for the problem with
gcc and by altering the CFLAGS for problem with virge.
Atleast i know that gcc is not broken.

The sole responder (thanks much) had this to say:

First, since mips-tfile crashes, report a gcc bug. It
may be trying
to deal with objects of the wrong type, for instance.

I can't tell which of your configure attempts
corresponds to the
config.log fragment.

CC shouldn't be defined like that -- the flags should
be in CFLAGS
and/or CPPFLAGS. If this is in an old directory, use
`make distclean'
and try again. At least get rid of config.cache. If
the INSTALL file
doesn't help you to debug this, report a bug (probably
to
autoconf-bugs_at_gnu.org) against the autoconf package
from which it
comes.
