I just recently started using rsync to syncronize files from an ALPHA4100 (
T64 version 4.0f, patch 4, ASE 1.6) to an ALPHA800 ( T64 version 4.0f, patch
4). Rsync is version 2.5.2 protocol version 26.

Everything worked well during tests, but when I went live on a pair of
production directories, I receive the following warning after some of the
files:

Warning: unexpected read size of 0 in map_ptr

None of the files are zero length and none of them appear to be open by
other processes. Most of them are ascii text files.

Does anyone know what this warning is about and is it of any concern?

Thanks to:

Paul A Sand

Since most of the files being sync'd were text files, I had checked out the
files on the target system by reading them and they appeared to be
transferring properly.
However, at the suggestion of Oisin, I looked closer at the file listings
and saw that the files on the target system were somehow larger than the
original. The checksum, of course, was then also incorrect. I took Paul's
suggestion and downloaded and installed version 2.4.6 of rsync.

It ran successfully last night with no warning messages and a randon
verification of the checksums confirmed the validity of the files on the
target system.

There seems to be a problem with version 2.5.2 of rsync.

Thanks.
