SUMMARY: /etc/mcicap entry

Hello ,

thanks to Klaus Dorndt. A working entry is:

--------
l700|Storagetek L700:\
        :it=scsi2:dt=tape:bc:dn=rmt4h,rmt5h,rmt6h:\
        :ex:is:mc=/dev/mc78:pa:pe:re:rs:vt:
--------

But for all the others who also asked and didnt get a reply heres some
background information:

The media changer utility (mcutil) is available from the associated product
cd
(look in the scsi directory). There you also find a documentation to start
off.
This documentation led me to the corresponding man pages - mcutil, mcicap,
mc and MAKEDEV.MC.

To make it short - I copied the above entry and changed the dn string to
our available
tapedrives and changed the special device file entry.

The most unknown thing about the mcicap is the special device file: You can
creat the
corresponding device file with /dev/MAKEDEV.MC mc<bus*8 + target>. In the
above
exampel the media changer is on bus 9 target 6 -> ./MAKEDEV.MC mc78 .

to use mcutil do:
# mcutil -M l700 -e

All the above is only valid for 4.0*. On 5.* there is some other possiblity
- some robot ...

have fun,
Samier.

Thema: /etc/mcicap entry

Hello,

where are using a Storagetek STK L700 with an Alpha 4100.
Can someone tell me the mcicap entry for such a tape library
and if needed the corresponding device file.
I've seen some similar question for that topic. Is there some
documentation for that tool?

OS Version is still 4.0E - I know its way out of
date but it works just fine.

Thanks in advance
Samier.
