Hi,
A client of ours has an issue with a Personal Workstation 433a (running
DU4.0d, unfortunately) which has left me confused. The system runs some
monitoring software and is designed to alert users by beeping, using the
console bell, when an incident occurs. However the console bell on the system
is so quiet it's barely audible above the noise of the fans. The system does
not by default run X, so xset b (the obvious solution) has no effect. Does
anyone know how to set the console bell volume outside of an X session?
Some additional information that might be useful: after starting X, I still
can't get any more volume from the internal speaker. I've also tried
disabling the onboard CS42XX soundcard (made no difference) and attaching
headphones and speakers (they cut off the internal speaker but generate
virtually no sound).
I suspect there might be a hardware problem but would be grateful for any
suggestions anyone has.
cheers
john
